Eight years old, struggle for the free pass in Brazil

On January 29, 2005, the Fifth World Social Forum was held "by the National Plenary Free Pass", bringing together activists across the country who organized themselves to fight for the free pass student, inspired by the experience of Revolt Buzu (Salvador, 2003 ) and the achievements of the Revolt of Ratchet (Florianópolis, 2004). There was founded the Free Pass Movement (MPL): a national federation of municipal collective that under the principles of autonomy, non-partisanship, independence and horizontality, fighting for a public transportation without turnstiles.

Over the years, MPL has abandoned his initial claim - the only free pass for students - and began to advocate a new model for the transport system as a whole: the end of the fare collection ("Zero Rate") and the control system by the government, with popular participation.

Eight years later, the struggle continues!

Petrobras Losing $8 Billion on Cheap Gasoline - Bloomberg: "Lacking refining capacity to meet demand, Petrobras increased gasoline imports 65 percent to 84,000 barrels a day in the third quarter, according to earnings statements. The imports, which the company sells at about 8 percent less than cost, caused year-to-date losses at its refining division to widen to 17.3 billion reais ($8.4 billion) from 10 billion reais for the whole of 2011."

The fight for a plebiscite means recognizing that public transport will not fall from the sky, the will of the council or the mayor, but the organized will of the majority population. In Tallinn, capital of Estonia, in 2012, was approved the Zero Rate, public transport therefore, through a plebiscite . There are today in the City Council project that seeks to regulate the referendum in Joinville and the manifestation of MPL adds to approve this project.
