Sao Paolo fare hike will raise #publictransit to 19% of minimum wage pay

In These Times : "The minimum wage in Brazil was recently raised to 724 reals a month ($268.21 US). With the fare increase, public transportation commutes will now eat up 19% of a minimum wage earner’s monthly pay."

Brazil government spends 12 times as much on cars as #publictransit

According to a recent survey by the Applied Economic Research Institute (IPEA), each dollar invested in public transportation, twelve are invested in individual transport. The different levels of government directly fund the production of an exclusive urban mobility, focusing on automobile culture at the expense of recovery of public transport."
